Yuan Ze University Competition Rules for the 2024 Academic Year Sports Meet
I. Purpose: This sports meet is aimed at creating a fun, energetic, and healthy campus lifestyle, improving the physical and mental health of students and faculty, and cultivating the spirit of teamwork.
II. Organized by: Physical Education Office.

IV. Co-organizing teams: Yuan Ze University sports teams
V. Date:
(I) Time: The University’s anniversary on March 8, 2025 (Sat.).
(II) Please refer to the program brochure or the announcement posted by the Physical Education Office for the competition schedules.
VI. Location: Sports ground.
VII. Eligibility: All students registered in this semester (including students in continuing education programs, graduate students, and international students) can apply to represent their departments.
VIII. Participation: By departments.
IX. Competitions:
(I)Track race:

- Individual: 100m, 200m
- Team: Inter-class tug-of-war, relay race (men’s 20x200m, women’s 12x100m).

(II)Fun competitions: Penguin Waddles, Giant Wheel, Crab Walk, Hula Hoop Pass.
X. Application:
(I) Application date: Until 23:59 on January 6, 2025. Late applications will not be accepted.
(II) Application method: Please fill out the application form (Microsoft Word digital file) and email it to Ms. Liu Jia-chen at the Physical Education Office.

XI. Policy for teams:
(I) Team formation: Teams shall be based on departments. Each department may only enter one team (each department may enter a maximum of three people for individual competitions and one team for team competitions.)
(II) Team competition rules: Women can join men’s teams if there are not enough men. (Three seconds are taken off the timer for every woman participant. For fun competitions only.)
XII. Competition system: Teams’ performances in all competitions will be timed, and the top six teams will be announced.
XIII. Prizes:
(I) Individual: The top six participants in each individual competition will we awarded a certificate and prize.
(II) Team: The top six teams in each team competition will be announced. The top three teams will be awarded a prize and trophy, while the 4th to 6th place will be awarded a prize.
(III) Championship: The departments with the top three total scores from individual track races plus team competitions will be awarded a trophy and a prize.

(II) Team competition scores are doubled.
(III) Three points will be deducted for any unsportsmanlike behavior such as improper conduct, disorderly conduct, forfeits without reason, and disputing the decisions of the referees.
(IV) In the event of tied scores, the department with the most 1st place victories will be the winner. If the scores are still tied, the winner will be judged by the number of 2nd place wins, etc.
(V) Women may participate in men’s teams if there are not enough men.
Sports Meet Track Race Regulations
I. Track races:
A. 100m, 200m: Men's and women’s competitions

- Runners may wear cleats.
- For races with separate lanes, all runners must stay within their assigned lanes throughout the race. Violators will be disqualified.
- Runners who leave their assigned lanes due to being involuntarily pushed or forced, and do not receive any benefit for leaving their lanes, will not be disqualified.
- Runners that commit a false start will be given a warning. Only one false start is allowed per race. Any runner who commits a second false start in a race will be disqualified.
B. Relay race:

- Each department may have two teams (men's, women’s). Each department shall enter 20 male students and 12 female students and write down the order of each runner on the application form. Runners may not wear cleats, and starting blocks will not be used.
- Men's relay: Each runner runs 200m. The second relay runner may change lanes after passing the green line (red flag) on the second bend. Subsequent runners may continue to run in the inner lane. A penalty of 5 seconds will be added if runners step on the drain cover while passing the baton. (Runners are to wear numbered bibs that correspond to their relay order and pass the baton within the designated area.)
- Women’s relay: Each runner runs 100m. The fourth relay runner can change lanes after passing the green line (red flag) on the second bend. Subsequent runners may continue to run in the inner lane. A penalty of 5 seconds will be added if runners step on the drain cover while passing the baton. (Runners are to wear numbered bibs that correspond to their relay order and pass the baton within the designated area.)
- The baton must remain in a runner’s hand throughout the entire race. If the baton is dropped, the runner who dropped the baton must pick it up and complete the handover. The receiving runner may not touch the baton, or a 10 second penalty will be added. The runner who dropped the baton may leave their lane to retrieve the baton, but cannot reduce the distance they need to run as a result. They also must not interfere with other runners.
- Runners must stay in their lanes or handover zone before and after receiving (or passing) the baton until the lanes are clear to avoid blocking other runners. Any runner who leaves their position or lane, resulting in them blocking another runner, will have a 5 second penalty added to their team.
II. Fun competitions
A. Team formation: Teams will be formed by department.

- Competition system: Timed competition, fastest time wins.
- Equipment: Volleyballs, hula hoops, cones
- Rules:

- Setup: Each team will place a cone 20m from the starting point.
- When the signal is fired, each contestant will start walking with a volleyball between their legs and a hula hoop in their hands. They will go around the cone and back to the starting point, where they will hand the ball and hula hoop to the next contestant. This will continue until the final contestant.
- If the ball is dropped, the contestant must put the hula hoop on the ground before picking the ball up and continuing.
- Penalty: Failure to follow the rules will be deemed a foul. A 5 second penalty will be added for each foul.

(II)Giant Wheel

- Team formation: 8 people per team (4 men, 4 women).
- Competition system: Timed competition, fastest time wins.
- Equipment: Tires, cones
- Rules:

- Setup: Each team will place a cone 20m from the starting point. The first contestant of each team will wait by the starting point with a tire.
- When the signal is fired, contestants will start rolling the tire toward the 20m mark, go around the cone, and return to the starting point, where they will hand the tire to the next contestant, and so on.
- Time ends when the final contestant of each team returns to the starting point.
- Penalty: Contestants may not kick the tire during the competition. Each violation will result in a 10 second penalty. The tires may not leave the ground (contestants may not pick them up and run). Each violation will result in a 10 second penalty. Not exchanging the tires at the starting point or turning around without going around the cone is considered a foul and will result in a 10 second penalty each time.

(III)Crab Walk

- Team formation: 8 people per team (4 men, 4 women).
- Competition system: Timed competition, fastest time wins.
- Equipment: Volleyballs, cones
- Rules:
- Setup: Each team will place a cone 20m from the starting point. The first two contestants will get ready by standing facing away from each other and holding a volleyball between their backs.
- When the signal is fired, contestants will start moving toward the 20m mark, go around the cone, and back to hand the ball to the next two contestants, and so on.
- Time ends when the final two contestants of each team return to the starting point.
- If the ball is dropped, one person must remain in place while the other picks up the ball and secures it between them before they can continue.
- Penalty: Failure to follow the rules will be deemed a foul. A 5 second penalty will be added for each foul.

(IV)Hula Hoop Pass:

- Team formation: 6 people per team (3 men, 3 women).
- Competition system: Timed competition, fastest time wins.
- Equipment: Hula hoops, cones
- Rules:
- Setup: Each team will place a cone at the starting point and 20m from the starting point. The hula hoop is placed on the starting cone.
- Contestants stand in a line holding hands.
- When the signal is fired, the first contestant will take the hula hoop and pass it over their head, body, and legs, passing it down the line while holding hands. Contestants may not move the hula hoop by grabbing it with their hands.
- If the line is not long enough, contestants in the front can go to the end of the line, until the last person can place the hoop over the end cone, let the hoop touch the ground, then pick it back up and pass it back to the starting cone. Time stops once the hoop is around the starting cone and has stopped moving.
- Penalty: Failure to follow the rules will be deemed a foul. A 5 second penalty will be added for each foul.

III. Competitions rules:
(I) All students must wear sportswear and sneakers to the opening and closing ceremonies.
(II) The opening and closing ceremonies will be held on March 8 (Sat.). The specific time and venue will be announced and noted in the program brochure.
(III) All announcements and notices on the day of the sports meet will be posted on the Physical Education Office website and the bulletin board in front of the Physical Education Office.
(IV) Teams should pay attention to the competition schedule and check in 30 minutes before the competition starts. Any changes to competition times are subject to announcements from the Physical Education Office.
(V) Cleats are prohibited in relay races. Runners may decide whether to wear them in individual races.
(VI) If an athlete is found to be ineligible or confirmed to be an impostor, their eligibility, ranking, and score shall be disqualified.
(VII) Please warm up properly before each competition to prevent injuries.
(VIII) Students with heart conditions, epilepsy, asthma, and other conditions not suitable for strenuous exercise should not apply.
(IX) Athletes who are unwell or cannot compete on short notice should ask the registration team for leave.
(X) For safety reasons, cleats are strictly prohibited in relay races and fun competitions.
IV. Appeals:
(I) In the event of a dispute in a competition, if the matter is expressly stipulated in the rules or otherwise stated with equivalent meaning, the referee's decision shall be final and no appeal may be filed.
(II) If teams have any objections, they should raise the issue in writing with the signature and seal of the team leader and submit it to the Competition Division within an hour after the end of the competition in question. Appeals will be judged by a meeting convened by the director of the Physical Education Office, and their verdict shall be final.
V. The organizer may amend and announce additional rules to cover matters not addressed in these rules.
