To welcome new students, promote a vibrant sports culture on campus, strengthen teamwork, foster friendships among freshmen, and identify potential members for the University's athletic teams, the Office of Physical Education is organizing the 2026 Freshman Cup Sports Competitions.

Registration
- Registration Period: From now until 11:59 PM, September 21, 2026 (Monday). Late submissions will not be accepted.
- Registration Method: Please complete the registration form and submit it as a Word document to E-mail:

Each department/institute needs to send one representative only. If no representative attends on time, the Office of Physical Education will draw lots on behalf of the team, and no objections will be accepted.
Competition Period
September 29 to November 27, 2026. Competitions will be held on weekday evenings (Monday through Friday).
Note: Competition schedules will be arranged to avoid conflicts between events. Students may register for multiple sports simultaneously.
(Detailed match schedules will be announced on the Office of Physical Education website after the drawing of lots.)
Competition Venues
- Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton, and Table Tennis: University Gymnasium
- Tennis: Tennis Courts
- Bowling: Asian Games Bowling Center, Zhongli District (approximately 10 minutes from campus by car)Students without transportation are encouraged to share taxis with teammates. A route map is provided at the end of the registration form (Figure 1).
Eligibility and Team Formation
- Participation is limited to freshmen of Yuan Ze University.
- Teams must register by department or graduate institute.
- Each department/institute may register one team only.
- Departments and graduate institutes should register as a combined unit when applicable.
- Bowling competition entries are organized by class.

Competition Formats
1. Men's Basketball
- Single-elimination tournament.
- Four quarters of 10 minutes each.
- The game clock will continue during free throws and timeouts.
- During the final two minutes of the fourth quarter, the clock will stop after successful field goals, free throws, fouls, and timeouts.
- Five-minute halftime interval.
2. Women's Basketball
- Single-elimination tournament.
- Four quarters of 10 minutes each.
- The game clock will continue during free throws and timeouts.
- During the final two minutes of the fourth quarter, the clock will stop after successful field goals, free throws, fouls, and timeouts.
- Five-minute halftime interval.
3. Volleyball
- Single-elimination tournament, best-of-three matches.
- The latest rules of the Chinese Taipei Volleyball Association will apply.
- Technical timeouts are not used.
4. Bowling
- Undergraduate students register by class. Classes from the same department may combine teams if necessary.
- Master's and doctoral students register by institute.
Subsidy: One team per undergraduate class and one team per institute are exempt from lane/game fees.
Each participant bowls three games. Results will be used for both individual and team competitions.
Team Competition
- A team should normally consist of 2 males and 2 females.
- If there are insufficient male players, female players may substitute, including an all-female team.
- Female players receive a handicap bonus of 15 pins per game.
- If there are insufficient female players, male players may substitute without bonus or deduction.
- Player substitutions during competition are not permitted.
- Team rankings are based on the combined scores of all four players over three games each (12 games total).
- Top four teams will be awarded.
Individual Competition
- Rankings are based on each player's total score over three games.
- Top six individuals will be awarded.
Additional Participants Participants exceeding the subsidized quota must pay bowling fees of NT$210 per person.
5. Table Tennis
- Individual single-elimination tournament.
- Each department/institute may register up to three male and three female players.
- Before the semifinals: best-of-three matches.
- Semifinals and finals onward: best-of-five matches.
- Each game is played to 11 points.
6. Badminton
- Team competition consisting of:
- Men's Singles
- Women's Singles
- Men's Doubles
- Women's Doubles
- Mixed Doubles
- The competition system will be determined according to the number of participating teams.
- Each match consists of five events, with total points accumulated across all events.
- Each game is played to 15 points.
- A minimum of four players is required per team.
- Each player may participate in up to two events.
7. Tennis
- Single-elimination tournament.
- Before the semifinals, the first player/team to win 4 games wins the match (tiebreak at 4-4).
- From the semifinals onward, the first player/team to win 6 games wins the match (tiebreak at 6-6).
- Official tennis rules apply to singles matches.
8. Attendance Requirements
All participants must report to the venue with their student ID card at least five minutes before the scheduled start time.
Participants arriving more than ten minutes after the match begins will forfeit the competition.
Unexcused withdrawals may affect the department's annual sports points evaluation.
9. Minimum Participation Requirement
A team event will be canceled if fewer than four teams register.
An individual event will be canceled if fewer than three participants register.
Awards
- Team events: Awards will be presented to the top four teams.
- Individual events: Awards will be presented to the top three finishers.
- Trophies or certificates will be awarded accordingly.
Appeals
- For matters explicitly covered by the rules or equivalent interpretations, the referee's decision shall be final.
- Any protest regarding a referee's decision during a match must be submitted in writing by the team captain. Competition shall continue during the appeal process. Refusal to continue the match will be treated as a forfeiture.
- The Appeals Committee consists of the Director of the Office of Physical Education and coaches of the respective athletic teams.
Competition Rules
The latest official rules approved by the respective sports associations of the Republic of China (Taiwan) shall apply.
Final Provision
Any matters not covered in these regulations may be revised and announced by the organizer.
